Seeking a Dope, Woke Therapist?

Yas!

Big ups to you for journeying to this site to continue your healing! This Directory was cultivated specifically for Black and Brown folks who want a therapist that is…

  • Social Justice Oriented
  • Committed to Anti-Racism
  • Mindful of Systemic Oppression
  • Committed to Change-makers + Activists

…and Growing daily to offer you Therapy that Liberates.

Every Therapist listed here has either:

  1. Completed intensive training/consultation with Kindred Wellness founder, Shawna Murray-Browne, LCSW-C on Liberation-Focused Healing, Black Psychology, Liberation Psychology, and the impact of Racism, Colonialism and Oppression on the Mental Health field, OR
  2. Has completed some other intensive training/mentorship/study that has been vetted

Shawna Murray-Browne does not endorse the therapeutic work of all therapists on this directory; as the time spent in training varies from 2 Days to Several Months. This Directory is, however, a testament to each practitioners self-work and commitment to social justice. You don’t have to guess whether these therapists are aware that racism is real and that it hurts Black and Brown People. And we all know that alleviates BIG stress!

I am not currently in practice in this capacity though hopefully soon. However, my specialties include: helping people understand a holistic approach to their health, recognize and process loss as it relates to displacement and separation, and the impact of migration (and its traumas) upon our health; depression, anxiety, etc; and addressing stigma around mental health.
I am not currently in practice in this capacity though hopefully soon, but I focus on Black people, particularly Black undocumented immigrants

Want to Be Listed on the Therapist Directory?

Hey!!!!
Welcome!

So here’s the deal…

Many of us in the mental health field got into this work because we wanted to help people… Now, in this current political climate, many are asking the question… Can I support the Social Justice Movement from my couch?

The answer is a resounding YES!

But here’s the truth… many of us are ill equipped with the tools, insights and understanding to truly hold space that is healing and sustaining…

The issue is, we get stuck when tough topics like racism are intertwined in our clients pain story. Sometimes it’s because we too are struggling through the same challenging reality OR it’s because the reality of white privilege leaves us unsure of what to do next.

No matter if you are working at a local mental health agency, are in private practice, or if you’re someplace in between… if you are passionate about better equipping yourself to provide quality, culturally affirming, liberatory psychotherapy for Black and Brown people who are impacted by these realities… then you need to be listed on this registry.

You can be featured here in two ways:

  1. Sign Up to get notice when the next Training Intensive for Trailblazing Clinicians is happening HERE.
  2. Start Consultation or Supervision for Trailblazing Clinicians with Shawna OR
  3. If you have already entrenched yourself in the what it means to be a Liberation-Focused Practitioner, fill out this form to make a request.
What? Why?

Well, Baltimore has spoken! It’s hard to find a dope, woke therapist! No matter if you are White or a POC, that has nothing to do with your politics, heart-work and understanding of race-based trauma. The mental health field in America was built on racist, patriarchal, oppressive ideology. So, our founder, Shawna Murray-Browne, LCSW-C wanted to make it easier for change-makers, movers, shakers and community folx of color to sift through the nonsense.
